One of our SLM students recently rocked up for her fourth lesson.
She's smart, accomplished, experienced, lauded in her field. But she also vocalised her displeasure with herself at least half a dozen times during her half hour lesson.
"Oh for goodness sake ME (not her name!), get it right!"
"Honestly, you should have this down by now, ME."
"OMG ME, when will you do this properly!"
When I reminded her that this was in fact her fourth lessons evah, she shrugged as if to say 'yes, but I should be better than this.'
We are often sooooooo hard on ourselves, and the worst part of it is that we can't unfriend ourselves. Urgh.
Have you experienced negative self-talk and struggled with it? Did you come to an amicable resolution with your self?! Love to hear your thoughts.
