Seven Second Saturday: 8va

Last week we learned about Middle C, a note which has its own little line called a ledger line, and that technically speaking, you can add as many ledger lines above or below the staff as you like.
But it can get tricky to count up the notes and work out which note sits on which ledger line, as you see in the illustration.
So we employ a handy symbol, 8va, which means to play the note one octave (8 notes higher) than written. In the illustration, the last two notes are the same pitch, ie the same note on the piano.
